Barbara Basham Hired as New Manager of Cooper Spur Mt. Resort!
An 18 year veteran of hospitality services on Mt. Hood Barbara Basham has been hired as the new manager of Cooper Spur Mt. Resort. Basham is a familiar face to those who have been recreating on Hood – she has been the culinary operations and events manager at Mt. Hood Meadows for the past 13 seasons. Basham held nearly every food service position available at Meadows, having started her career their 18 years ago.
Most recently Basham extended her considerable experience to Cooper Spur Mt. Resort, coordinating the many wedding, social and meeting events at the property. She has great insight into what makes Cooper Spur Mt. Resort special, saying, “Cooper Spur is the perfect sized property that allows our staff to focus on the needs of our guests to make it a truly unique and hospitable experience. We enjoy getting to know the people who stay here, making friends and inviting them to visit us again.”
V.P. Of Resort Operations Jeremy Riss says Basham’s vast culinary experience will serve Cooper Spur Mt. Resort well, explaining, “We are fortunate to have someone with Barb’s passion for hospitality, knowledge of the property and desire to improve the overall guest experience at Cooper Spur Mt. Resort. She brings with her great talent and experience that will help take the resort to the next level."
In her new role, Basham will manage the daily restaurant and lodging operations, located on the North side of Mt. Hood, just 23 miles south of Hood River. The resort offers lodge hotel rooms, condos, cabins and a log home and a restaurant - the Crooked Tree Tavern. Basham is especially excited about hosting more weddings and meetings at the resort, claiming, “This is a most beautiful and inspiring setting, and we know how to present a ceremony and celebration that will bring meaning to the entire wedding party. I’m very proud of our team and our ability to create momentous events whether it be a wedding, a reunion or a meeting. This is where Mt. Hood memories begin!"
Basham has a strong passion for sustainability, and piloted the very successful food composting programs at Meadows.
One of the most noticeable and significant improvements at Cooper Spur Mt. Resort is the new front desk lobby and check in space. In the past we’ve welcomed guests through our restaurant, which worked, but didn’t really provide the kind of hospitable hello we favor. This spring we began constructing an entire office area, where we can check guests in and out, as well as provide room for retail, food concessions and borrowing. It’s a much more friendly and welcoming space adding to the comfort of your Cooper Spur Mt. Resort stay.
